Research Focus Areas

Core Research Domains

DASGR Center’s Research Focus Areas represent the Center’s core questions: how gambling systems work, how they affect people and communities, and what policies and tools can make them safer and more equitable. Together, these questions guide the proposals the DASGR Center supports, the collaborations it builds, and the evidence it shares with policymakers, industry, and the public.

The Center focuses on the following main domains; however, this is not an exhaustive list. Additional relevant fields and detailed topics may be added depending on the researchers’ area of expertise.

Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence in Gaming and Gambling

The DASGR Center applies advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to better understand how people engage with gaming and gambling. Using tools such as predictive modeling, machine learning, and large-scale data analysis, we identify patterns in behavior, risk, and market dynamics—helping inform smarter policy, stronger consumer protections, and more responsible industry practices.

Socio-Cultural Dimensions of Gambling and Sports Betting

We examine how gaming and gambling intersect with culture, identity, and community life. With a particular focus on communities of color and other historically underrepresented groups, this work explores how social norms, access, and lived experience shape participation, risk, and resilience.

Policy, Regulation, and Ethical Frameworks

The DASGR Center evaluates the policies and regulatory systems that govern gaming and sports betting, assessing what works, where gaps exist, and how frameworks can evolve. Our research emphasizes ethical considerations, consumer protection, and equitable approaches that balance innovation with public responsibility.

Behavioral and Psychological Aspects of Gaming and Gambling

This area focuses on the human side of gaming—how people think, decide, and respond. We study behavioral patterns, risk factors, and the progression of problem gambling, while also evaluating interventions that support informed decision-making and responsible play.

Health Impacts of Gambling and Sports Betting

We explore the broader health implications of gambling, including its effects on mental health, stress, and overall well-being. By examining both individual and population-level outcomes, the DASGR Center contributes to strategies that promote prevention, early intervention, and long-term public health.

Economic and Business Implications of Digital Gaming and Gambling

The DASGR Center analyzes the economic forces shaping the gaming and gambling industries, from market growth and innovation to financial outcomes for individuals and communities. This work considers both opportunity and risk, offering insight into how these markets influence economic development and financial stability.

Equity and Access in the Gaming and Gambling Ecosystem

Our research investigates who has access to gaming opportunities—and who bears the greatest risks. We focus on issues of equity, financial inclusion, and digital access, to understand how systems can be designed to support fair participation and reduce disproportionate harm.

Educational Pathways and Career Preparation in Data Analytics and Gaming

The DASGR Center is committed to building the next generation of researchers and professionals. We develop and assess educational programs that strengthen skills in data analytics, gaming, and emerging technologies, preparing students for meaningful careers in a rapidly evolving field.

Technology and Innovation in Gaming and Sports Betting

We study the technologies shaping the future of gaming, including blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and digital payment systems. Our work evaluates both the opportunities these innovations create and the risks they introduce, with an emphasis on responsible and transparent implementation.

Community Impact and Advocacy for Responsible Gaming

Grounded in community experience, this research area focuses on how gaming and gambling affect people at the local level. The DASGR Center supports advocacy, education, and policy efforts that promote responsible gaming practices and drive positive, equitable outcomes—especially in communities of color.
